- I began working again as a server at the Spot diner, just one day a week on sundays for extra cash for groceries and other necessities in between my ARC paychecks. I was nervous at first, having not served for 2 years, but after my confidence rose due to no forgetting, dropping, breaking or complaints, I did great. He is a celebrity in the intellectual world. It is those who change the world with their hearts and minds that impresses me and it was intimidating meeting him. He was having lunch with some students that helped organize his lecture last night at Binghamton Universtiy. I approached the table and introduced myself. He is a very humble man, so I think I embarrassed him a bit by treating him like a celebrity, but I think he understood that I was just excited. He is freaking amazing, so I just had to meet him, even though I am painfully shy.
- I actually went to his lecture last night. I would have never dreamed fo approaching him last night, but it seemed less threatening at the diner. The room (at BU) was packed and it seats 500. He was powerful, inspiring, motivating and INTENSE. OMG...the biggest presence I have ever seen. He is the most effective speaker I have ever seen and I have not felt this excited about something in a long while. And, of course, I told all of this to him as I was bumbling along. I want to get into advocacy and activism with my degrees in Human Development and Social Anthropology, so it was very important to me that I become familiar and network with community leaders. Ward Churchill is definitely one of the most premiere leaders in the nation, so it was really amazing to have been inspired by hiim and to have met him. I feel like the ifre within has been reignited, btu I still have some persoanl work to do before I can be where I need to to be a activist agian. I was a community leader, advocating for the hungry and homeless back-in-the-day, but I had to leave it to concentrate on school. I am hungry to get back to it once again.

Not to put too fine a point on it, sweetheart, but he could probably smell how excited you were.
Ward Churchill Admits he Assaulted his young student-wife
Ward Churchill has written that Indians at Pine Ridge "suffered violent physical assaults" and were even murdered, but he ironically admits that in 1996 his young Canadian Indian wife Leah Kelly suffered a violent physical assault when Churchill slammed her into their bedroom wall. He says that Leah was often assaulting him due to her alcoholism and mental illness.
Churchill wrote:
"I broke and slammed her back against our bedroom wall, telling her that if she kept it up, she’d be apt to land in a hospital."
But shouldn't Churchill have gotten his wife to the hospital that night? Shouldn't Churchill have called the police, Leah's doctor, and an ambulance immediately if his mentally ill wife was violent and out of control, instead of threatening to injure her?
Churchill writes that his wife was a drunk and crazy Indian who seemingly committed suicide by running into the road because her Canadian Indian family was dysfunctional.
Churchill blames his wife's death on the collective guilt of white opression:
"I cannot avoid the meaning of it all. Leah’s is the quintessential story of contemporary North America. It is thus ours, each of us, to the extent that we live on this continent. From this, squirm as one might, there is, can be no escape."
Ward Churchill claims that he is an Indian, but he has not demonstrated Indian ancestry and does not hold citizenship in any Indian nation.
Isn't it just possible that Professor Churchill was "the white man" who mistreated his much younger Indian wife? Why is this white man's behavior the collective fault of all white people?
Leah Kelly was reportedly struck by a motorist who said she was lying in the road late at night and that he didn't see her. She reportedly had a blood-alcohol level of .35.
According to the Denver Post:
Churchill's third wife, 25-year-old Leah Kelly, was killed May 31, 2000, when hit by a car outside Boulder, and Churchill's biography of her continues to stir bad feelings with her family. Kelly had a blood-alcohol content of 0.35 percent when a motorist came upon her outside of town. He said she was lying in the road and he had no time to stop. Churchill later wrote that her death "left a crater in my soul," but he blamed her alcoholism, and her demise, on the colonial treatment Indians received from white people.
Her family today feels Churchill used Kelly's death to make philosophical points with which they don't agree. He portrayed her family as dysfunctional - a dysfunction he said was caused by her Indian parents' confinement to Indian schools. The family and her Ojibwe tribe dispute those details and Churchill's overall assessment that Leah Kelly was ground down by a white man's system until she became a doomed alcoholic.
"This was a really bright, outgoing (person), and she was absolutely beautiful," her sister Rhonda Kelly said. "I have yet to come across anybody who disliked her."
According to the Rocky Mountain News, Leah Kelly's sister, Rhonda Kelly "said [Leah]...told her that she suffered "psychological abuse" during her marriage to Churchill. She described him as exhibiting "very controlling behaviors" ....Churchill, in the wake of Leah Kelly's death, established a fund at CU for Rhonda Kelly's two children and contributed $200. Rhonda Kelly last summer wrote a letter to CU's financial aid office asking that the money be earmarked for a "promising native woman who was or is involved in an abusive relationship. I wish that such an award can assist a woman to leave an abusive relationship before her spirit is broken, as was the case of my sister Leah."
"My sister Leah Renae Kelly had so much promise, but she was involved in an emotionally and mentally abusive marriage, and as a result of feeling that she could not seek real help for fear of having others know of her predicament, she instead turned to alcohol to escape the torment and humiliation in her marital home."
Ward Churchill claims to be an advocate for Indians, but even by his own account he mistreated his Indian wife. I don't believe him when he points the finger at other people and accuses them of abusing Indians.
Ward Churchill advocates killing children
Professor Ward Churchill of the University of Colorado at Boulder has written an essay called "I Am Indigenist."
This essay is also published as Chapter 13 in his book Acts of Rebellion: The Ward Churchill Reader.
Basically, Ward Churchill wants to save the planet by getting rid of the people, especially the affluent people of America.
Ward Churchill says that in terms of environmental impact, "the most overpopulated portion of the globe is the United States....Either the consumption rates really have to be cut in this country, especially in the more privileged social sectors, or the number of people must be drastically reduced, or both. I advocate both."
The thuggish Ward Churchill even "jokes" about killing American babies and their yuppie mothers:
"Every yuppie born counts as much as another seventy Chinese...Lay that one on the next soccer mom who approaches you with a baby stroller and an outraged look, demanding that you to put your cigarette out, eh? It is plainly absurd for any American to complain about smoking when you consider the context of the damage done by overall U.S. consumption patterns. Tell ’em you’ll put the butt out when they snuff the kid and not a moment before. Better yet, tell ’em they should snuff themselves, as well as the kid, and do the planet a real favor. Just “kidding” (heh-heh)."
Personally, I think that Churchill is only "kidding" readers when he impersonates an environmentalist. Really, he is just spouting environmental rhetoric as a form of communist/terrorist class-warfare. He's not "kidding" about the class-warfare, of course. That is why for 30 years Churchill has maligned and attacked the FBI, which protects the civil rights of Americans from criminals, violent predators, and terrorists.
Before Churchill was a fake Indian, he championed the Black Panthers. [Rocky Mountain News 2-23-05 as reprinted here.]
The Panthers were criminals who embraced a genocidal Maoist ideology, and that is why the FBI targeted them:
"That the FBI targeted, harassed and infiltrated the Black Panthers is not open to doubt. Then again, the agency would have been irresponsible not to be concerned about this group, whose celebrated public image of providing armed defense to the black community concealed vicious, systematic criminal activity - much of which its surviving leaders admitted in later years. In 1998, for example, Eldridge Cleaver told 60 Minutes, "If people had listened to Huey Newton and me in the 1960s, there would have been a holocaust in this country." Like Mao, Churchill is far too ignorant to know what is environmentally sustainable and what isn't. He has no expertise as a scientist or an environmentalist. In any case, the really terrible environmental disasters have been in communist countries where ignorant and terroristic communist policies created genocidal catastrophies that exterminated millions.
Stalin's agricultural policies led to famine that killed millions.
Mao was responsible for the deaths of 70 million people in peacetime.
Ward Churchill is often defended by a Maoist site called MIM.

In a review of the James Bond film "Moonraker," the MIM author "joked" about saving the planet by killing the people:
"An evil eugenicist takes over the space program to create a new species in space and kill the inhabitants of earth. We cannot much object to the plot then."
I have noticed that Ward Churchill has accused the FBI of backing death squads that murdered 342 Indians (later he claimed that the 342 Indians were only assaulted and around 60-70 killed), but Churchill is the one who embraces genocidal ideologies, political criminals, and dictators.
Churchill claims he was on Pine Ridge when two FBI agents were murdered
On June 26, 1975, two young FBI Special Agents, Jack R. Coler and Ronald A. Williams, were shot to death execution-style at close range after they were already injured and on the ground. Here is the official FBI account of what happened. The investigation showed that the two FBI agents didn't fire many shots. They seem to have been surprised by the shooters. "During this ordeal, a combined total of five rounds had been fired by both Williams and Coler's weapons."

The double-murder happened at Pine Ridge Indian Reservation in the Jumping Bull Compound on the 99th anniversary of the Battle of Little Bighorn, also called "Custer's Last Stand" (June 25-26, 1876).
I think that the murder was probably a kind of sick live theater with the two FBI agents unwittingly playing the role of Custer in a symbolic reinactment of "Custer's Last Stand."
This writer makes the same point.
Ward Churchill writes up his account of this shooting in his book Agents of Repression. Churchill characterizes his account as "reality" and claims that the FBI agents were to blame for their own deaths. He suggests that the FBI agents initiated the shooting. In fact, it appears to me that the FBI agents were outgunned before they started shooting:
"The reality, of course, was that Coler and Williams were vastly outgunned from the moment they commenced firing, although it is doubtful they realized it at the outset. Further, AIM [ie American Indian Movement] and its supporters had sufficient firepower available to turn back the initial attempts at reinforcement, sealing the two agents -- Custer-like -- in their self-made trap." [page 241]

Ward Churchill claims that he was on Pine Ridge Reservation on "that day":
"In my book [ie Agents of Repression], I did not state that I was on the other side of the ridge from the Jumping Bull [Compound]... I was at Potato Creek which is some distance away on the Pine Ridge reservation. I had arrived there that day [ie June 26, the day of the shootings] in an International Scout vehicle without a radio, I had no idea what was going on and was surprised by one of the FBI sweep operations, that’s what I recount.
I was on my way to Spearfish, South Dakota to take up a faculty position..."
What did Churchill actually say in Agents of Repression? In this book, Churchill claims he was on Pine Ridge on June 27, 1975, not on June 26, 1975. He doesn't actually say where he was on June 26, the day of the execution-style double murders:
"Author Churchill experienced one of these sweeps firsthand when, while driving across Pine Ridge on June 27, 1975, he stopped to urinate alongside the road, about five miles south of Porcupine. Over the ridge came an APC, accompanied by some 20 FBI and BIA police personnel, moving "on line," carrying M-16s, and dressed in Vietnam-style jungle fatigues, boots and bush hats. Most of the group were also wearing military-issue flack-jackets. Needless to say, the whole scene afforded a sense of deja vu to the viewer, given that he had spent a year in Southeast Asia in combat." [page 438, footnote #49]

Indian Scholar La Velle exposes Churchill's misrepresentations of other's scholarship
as "a white "wannabee" who inserts himself "into the political affairs of real Indian people" and "assaults tribal self-determination under the guise of championing Indian rights" [The American Indian Quarterly, Winter 1996, page 109]."
Professor LaVelle teaches Indian Law at the University of New Mexico and is an enrolled member of the Santee Sioux Nation. He is often hired to advise Indian organizations.
LaVelle said:
"There is no escaping the conclusion that in [Ward Churchill's book] Indians Are US? Ward Churchill misrepresents the writings of both Russell Thornton and Patricia Nelson Limerick in order to create a false appearance that these acclaimed scholars corroborate and partake of Churchill's hostility toward Indian tribes...the anti-tribal posturing that Churchill cunningly assigns to Thornton and Limerick is decisively negated by both authors in those very same passages...Churchill cites!" You have to see what other, older people with more experience say about him.
He is a very clever liar. He fooled his employers and college professors for years by claiming to be an Indian--but there is no evidence that he is.
He claimed that the US Army deliberately gave Indians smallpox at a military post and cited other scholars' books to "prove" his point. But if you look up his citations they don't say waht he said at all. He falsified his sources.
He lies about everything so it is very confusing.
The "military" post Churchill write about was actually a fur-trading post. The traders were married to Indians, had Indian children, and traded with Indians. Why would they kill their business partners, the Indians?
Professor Thomas Brown has demonstrated that Churchill mischaracterized what other scholars wrote when he claimed that the U. S. Army deliberately infected the Mandan Indians with smallpox. Brown concluded that "falsification and fabrication are habitual with Churchill."
Professor Brown writes:
"one must reluctantly conclude that Churchill fabricated the most crucial details of his genocide story. Churchill radically misrepresented the sources he cites in support of his genocide charges, sources which say essentially the opposite of what Churchill attributes to them."
